Digitalization in Agriculture: The Key to a Sustainable Future

By NewsNo Comments

On November 21, 2024, as part of the European project CODECS, we organised a gathering at the beautiful Leber-Vračko Farm in Zgornja Kungota, Slovenia. This ambitious project aims to develop a methodology for evaluating the impacts of digitalization on the environment, society, and economy.

In the practical part of the project, we are collaborating with Doppler Winnery and Beekeeping Cesar, where digital solutions are being utilized to improve production efficiency while simultaneously reducing negative impacts on nature. With the help of sensor infrastructure and appropriate communication technology, we have established two model farms to monitor the impacts of digitalization.

The event brought together a wide range of experts and institutions working in agriculture, tourism, innovation, and technology. Representatives from the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food, the Slovenian Forestry Institute, the Agricultural and Forestry Institute Maribor, and local farms and companies such as Styrian Sivka Resort, Bee SMART, Beekeeping Cesar, Doppler Winnery and Opok27 were present.

During the meeting, we highlighted key challenges and opportunities of digitalization in agriculture:

  • The impact of digitalization in agriculture: Discussions on how digitalization influences farm management practices, organizational activities, and economic, environmental, and social aspects.
  • Financial opportunities under the Common Agricultural Policy: Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food presented funding opportunities.
  • Co-creation of project ideas: Together with participants, we began developing project ideas to address current challenges in beekeeping, viticulture and tourism.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders. A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their valuable ideas and contributions!
