Chania, Greece – May 28, 2024 – The Project Kick-Off Meeting for Digital Rural took place at the renowned Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh), marking the beginning of a promising collaboration among various international partners.

The day commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. George Baourakis, the director of MAICh, followed by an address from Dr. Ioannis Livieratos, the head of the Department of Sustainable Agriculture. The morning session included introductions by representatives from each partner institution, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. The lead parnter provided a comprehensive overview of the Digital Rural project, outlining the expected contributions and the timeline of activities across the semesters.

In the afternoon, participants visited Terra Creta, a leading agricultural company specializing in olive oil production. This study visit provided a firsthand look at their state-of-the-art, fully-digitized production system, showcasing the integration of technology in traditional agricultural practices.

The evening session, held at the Chania Sailing Club Café in the picturesque Venetian Harbour, focused on sustainable tourism. Partners from the Region of Crete introduced digital tools designed to promote sustainable tourism initiatives.

The day concluded with a dinner at Restaurant Antigoni, a traditional fish tavern in the Venetian Harbour, where participants enjoyed local cuisine and continued their discussions in a more informal setting.

This kick-off meeting has laid a strong foundation for the Digital Rural project’s future activities, highlighting the collaborative spirit and commitment of all partners involved.
