Emilija Stojmenova Duh, PhD, from University of Ljubljana has attended the workshop The Smart Eco-social Villages Pilot Project and the Future of Smart Villages, which was held on 21–22 February in the European Parliament in Brussels.

As a speaker on the panel on the role of digital technologies in Smart Villages, she presented our view on their importance for inclusion of communities and for improvement of economic, social and environmental return on investment in basic IT structure.

The key findings of the workshop are very encouraging for our future work on Smart Villages. They evolve around participatory, bottom-up approaches and community engagement, where digitalisation is not seen as merely a goal but as a tool for inclusion and new opportunities.
