The Challenge is On: To Implement the Next Generation Emergency Services

The Grant Agreement for NEXES has been signed between the European Commission and the NEXES partners, delivering almost 6 million euros to the research and development of next generation emergency services that integrate IP-based communication technologies and interoperability.

Answering to the Horizon 2020 Security Call Topic DRS-19-2014 on the Next Generation Emergency Services, NEXES delivers innovation to 112 services across Europe, enabling (i) the use of total conversation capabilities in emergencies, including social media, to the benefit of citizens, including those experiencing disability or having special needs; (ii) the exploitation of improved location information to rapidly and effectively identify and locate the caller and the incident site; and (iii) the leverage of Internet-enabled connectivity to enhance interoperability and shared awareness among emergency services, to the benefit of a more secure society.

The NEXES Consortium includes 17 participating organisations from 10 countries, coordinated by RINICOM (United Kingdom), co-coordinated by the Police And Crime Commissioner For West Yorkshire (United Kingdom) and including the Ambulance and Emergency Physicians Association (Turkey), Aimtech (United Kingdom), Azienda Regionale Emergenza Urgenza (Italy), Ministero Dell’interno (Italy), Deveryware (France), European Union of the Deaf (Belgium), Institute Of Communication And Computer Systems (Greece), Insta (Finland), Omnitor (Sweden), Orange Romania (Romania), Police University College (Finland), Préfecture de Police (France), Teamnet (Romania), Telekom Slovenia (Slovenia) and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).

The NEXES Consortium presents a strong multi-disciplinary and complementary collective, with solid competences and experience developing research and innovation projects, that ensure significant contributions will be handed to Europe’s standardisation effort on emergency services.
