Representatives of the Digital Rural project recently took part in a partner meeting and Interregional Learning Event in the Vidzeme region, Latvia. The event focused on exchanging good practices and exploring how digital solutions can address challenges in rural areas.

During the meeting, partners were introduced to a range of initiatives demonstrating different approaches to rural development.

Among them was EDIH Latvia, which supports companies in their digital transformation by offering services from basic digital skills training to advanced technology adoption. A strong emphasis is also placed on training key target groups, such as workers and teachers.

Partners also learned about the digital twin of the Ogre River, an innovative solution that enables flood prediction and supports timely response by public authorities.

In the field of skills and community development, the Cēsis Digital Centre presented its approach to strengthening digital competences and adapting training to real user needs, while the Space Exploration Centre in Cēsis showcased how interactive learning environments can connect technology, education and local communities.

The programme also included examples of sustainable solutions, such as the Ce4Re project, which helps reduce food waste in the restaurant sector through digital tools and circular economy principles.

In addition, the municipality of Valmiera presented its ongoing digitalisation efforts, focusing on improving quality of life through the use of digital tools in public services and local governance.

Participants also visited the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences laboratories, where advanced technologies such as virtual and augmented reality are used in education and for developing practical solutions.

The event provided valuable insights into how different types of digital and community-based solutions can contribute to more resilient, inclusive and connected rural areas.
