The TERRAE project addresses the challenges faced by rural areas, such as climate change, population ageing, limited infrastructure and the need for more sustainable spatial management. The project develops the concept of a Rural Digital Twin, which will enable the integration of geographical, environmental, infrastructural, social and economic data and support their use in planning, simulations and decision-making.

The Rural Digital Twin will be designed as a tool for cooperation between local communities, decision-makers and other stakeholders. The aim of the project is to support the development of more resilient rural areas, particularly in the fields of agriculture, forestry, landscape management and spatial planning.

The University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Laboratory for Telecommunications, and the Municipality of Črna na Koroškem are participating in the project, where the Slovenian pilot implementation will take place. LTFE will contribute expertise in ICT, IoT, data-driven solutions, digital transformation, smart communities and cooperation with local stakeholders.
