The event focused on\u00a0<\/span>Emergency Response and Communication in Crisis Situations<\/span><\/i>\u00a0and brought together project partners and external stakeholders from several European regions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The topic was selected in response to concerns raised by project partners who\u00a0have recently experienced emergency situations in their local environments\u00a0or expressed growing concern about preparedness in light of increasing climate-related and other risks.\u00a0Effective and resilient communication systems were identified as a key challenge for local and regional authorities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A concrete case study was presented by\u00a0<\/span>Mag\u00a0Romana\u00a0Lesjak<\/span><\/b>, Mayor of the Municipality of \u010crna na Koro\u0161kem, who shared lessons learned from the 2023 floods,\u00a0when landslides cut off all access routes, leaving the municipality completely isolated for days.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The technological and systemic perspective was addressed by\u00a0<\/span>Dr Emilija Stojmenova Duh<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(Faculty\u00a0of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana), who presented an overview of communication technologies for emergency response, including cell broadcast systems, public alerting solutions and alternative communication channels in the event of network failure.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cModern technologies, particularly cell-broadcast systems, are essential to reach the population rapidly and inclusively,\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0she emphasised.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
