Laboratory for Telecommunications at Faculty of\nElectrical Engineering (LTFE) is a home to many projects related to rural\ndevelopment and addressing other issues in the field of contributing to a\nfriendly living space for the future generations. One of our currently running projects\nis SaMBA (co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund via Interreg\nAlpine Space), a project that fosters a collaboration of 13 partners from\nAustria, Germany, Italy, France, and Slovenia, and enables us to research different\noptions for increasing sustainable mobility, that is to say mobility that will also\nbe sustainable for our offspring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

As a part of this project, we hosted project partners\nfrom the above mentioned countries at Faculty of Electrical Engineering on the\n29 and 30 January. We all presented the progress in carrying out our\nassignments and outlined the activities awaiting us in the following months.\nLTFE is a scientific partner in the project, namely, we’re developing a\nmethodology and a digital tool SEROI+<\/a>, which is designed to assess and measure the effects of different policies\nthat address the issues concerning several stakeholders. The acronym SEROI indicates\nthe calculation of \u00bbs<\/strong>ocial, e<\/strong>conomic and e<\/strong>nvironmental r<\/strong>eturn o<\/strong>n i<\/strong>nvestment\u00ab<\/em>, which means that the\ntool not only includes the economic effects of the changes \u2013 which are (too)\noften the only considered criteria \u2013 but also focuses on social and\nenvironmental effects of the planned measures \u2013 in SaMBA these are mostly\nmeasures, related to achieving sustainable mobility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our two-day meeting, we also got to know two really\ninteresting good practice examples in the field of sustainable mobility\nsolutions. Toti Di Dio from PUSH Palermo demonstrated their MUV<\/a>\napplication, which aims to increase citizens\u2019\nawareness of the quality of the urban environment in order to promote the shift\ntowards more sustainable mobility choices. Marko Zevnik from Sopotniki Institute<\/a>, on the other hand, introduced us to\nan inspiring practice of on-call car rides for the elderly in the rural areas,\nwhich is triggering many positive effects for its users and the whole\ncommunities where it\u2019s already in effect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
